South Coast Tints - The complete story

1990

Phil Thompson is the originator behind the business concept back in the early 90's. Phil recalls "I remember not having any idea how to apply films to windows at that time, or what was involved". This only emphasised the need to focus on quality, there was no one to turn to back then. Phil brought with him years of specialised vehicle graphics and contacts within the automotive world.

2000

In 2000, the next obvious step was to find a suitable workshop to ensure the business could run smoother and to focus further on better and better installations. South Coast Tints still operates at this unit today.

Later, Phil approached his other youngest brother, Roger to help grow the business further. Roger came on board and worked hard with Phil to take the business forward, implementing new procedures in a methodical style. The seed was sown.

South Coast Tints developed a bespoke management system in order to capture all information on customer vehicles and to know our customers better. A knowledge base and customer order management system was developed. This allows South Coast Tints to be more efficient with customers request for quotes, all aspects of ordering, invoicing and payments and includes a crucial element of managing how jobs are scheduled in, allocating the right time for each install, no rush jobs, perfection is key.

2005

In mid-2005 things changed and stepped up another level yet again.

Simon (another brother) and Phil Joined forces and kicked off a new strategy to take the business forward. Simon brought in skills developed from years in selling software solutions into large companies. Simon had previously been working with South Coast Tints in the background for a couple of years.

South Coast Tints have always been leaders in this field, with many firsts. e.g. 1st to conquer one piece back windows, 1st be presented online with an informative web site (Late-99), 1s to abide the law regarding illegally tinted front windows (Jan 2004) following VOSA's advice at every stage, 1st to provide online quotes (Jan-06), 1st to tint front and rear lights (mid 2010)... The list is long and its sure to continue...

2009

South Coast tints has made it through the financial crash in 2008, going from strength to strength. Seeing most other window tinters go bust was a huge gain for South Coast Tints, picking up more work as others disappeared, being the only true professional company around.

The road has been long and extremely tough going for all involved in keeping the highest standards possible through thick and thin. Other companies have been and gone. Some start up and undercut South Coast Tints, but many fail to deliver the quality that South Coast Tints are well known for.

South Coast Tints has worked up a great reputation with the local car dealerships, getting to the point where most of the time they will often tell their own customers to come and see us direct and not go to anyone else.

This you cannot buy, this is the power of recommendation by the local dealerships around that use South Coast Tints.

2010

South Coast Tints is always up against companies that use very cheap products that fade and scratch. Along with very low standards of perfection. Often South Coast Tints are proud to help customers with issues experienced by using other, let’s say 'less experienced' companies.

South Coast tints will never ever install any level of shaded films to the front windows from the time the law changed back in 2004. This has been a constant daily struggle educating customers after they have been told by other window tinters that it is ok to put a 30% shade on front windows.

Recently Phil helped a customer from up North who had an Audi tinted by his local stereo shop, who said it was ok to have a light 30% shade applied to the front windows. Late one night after a night out with his other half he got pulled over by the police who impounded the vehicle. The customer was fuming and very embarrassed. He was a well-respected business man and had been mislead by the stereo shop who was avoiding all responsibility blaming the window tinter who should know his business.

Phil found out from him the UK solicitor "Nick The Loop hole" A well-known famous lawyer who had a reputation for getting celebrity football players off the hook. He was telling his clients to contact South Coast Tints. As South Coast Tints was the only company who knew the law, upheld the law, and happily advised customers on the law.

Phil always believed, if you do what is right in life. The rewards will eventually come to you. He always likes to go to sleep at night knowing the next day he won’t have a court case on his hands after an insurance company decided not to pay up just because of illegal tinted front windows.

2011

South Coast Tints enter into a new faze.

February 2011 sees Ben join the team, with the intent to help keep things running smoother than ever. A new website launched with up to date media facilities takes up time to keep updated. South Coast Tints will be uploading fresh material on a weekly, even daily basis rather than the previous twice a year chore. With modern phones everyone is checking us out from where ever they are in the UK. This will be a new faze for South Coast Tints making the most of all media options available to them with the aid of a forward thinking web designer. (Thanks to Dave @ Matamas)

Ben also joins the team to help work with the dealership accounts, running around picking up and dropping off motors where ever he can help them to use us, saving precious time.

South Coast Tints can now tint lights with an amazing new product on the market shipped direct from Canada. Also branching into carbon fibre wraps using only the best 3M Di-Noc product on the market.

Something else that is in the pipeline for 2011 is fitting 'Day Time' running lights. 2011 will see all new cars with the new style 'Day Time' running lights. Still in the design process, Phil hopes to work with customers to modify standard off the shelf LED lights into something a little more bespoke.

On top of all the above Phil is always able to help you customise your car. Drawing on his now 22 years of design experience to help you plan ahead style modifications to enhance your vehicle making it stand out from the busy crowd. From colouring wheels, Carbon fibre body wraps and tinted lights, not forgetting tinted windows. It’s a one stop make over point of contact for something fresh and funky.

Last but not least, South Coast Tints now has a courtesy car for all the customers over the age of 25 that need to get back to work or have young babies. We know how tough it is taking new born babies of a certain age out of the house and into town passing a few ours just to get your windows tinted. So now we have the option to use a courtesy car to go back home or into town.
